Maintenance Technician ~ Full Time & Part Time

Minimum Requirements

  • PA Drivers License
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 2 years building trade (carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing) high school or vocational

OR

  • Associates Degree from accredited union/trade apprentice program in building trades
  • A minimum of 5 years of actual trade experience with a trade company or self-employment. This must be documented and verified.

Civil Service Testing

All employees must comply with the Pennsylvania State Civil Service requirements in testing. Job seekers should visit www.scsc.pa.gov for civil service testing.

Applicants must complete the test and meet all minimum qualifications. When a position becomes available, lists are pulled. The top three applicants are interviewed for the position. Veterans receive preference points on the test. Any further questions or inquiries can be made to PA civil service commission

Section 3 Maintenance Training Program

McKeesport Housing Authority has a maintenance training program that employs low income residents of the City of McKeesport. Residents of subsidized housing developments are given preference. Applications receive job training skills in the area of property management.

Management And Clerical Employees

All applicants must comply with the Pennsylvania State Civil Service requirements and testing.

Bargaining Unit Employees

The applicant must meet the minimum requirements:

  • Pennsylvania drivers license and high school diploma or GED; and
  • Completion of 2 years building trade (carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing) high school or vocational; or
  • Completion of an Associate Degree from an accredited union/trade apprenticeship program in building trades (carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing); or,
  • A minimum of 5 years of actual trade experience with a building trade company or self-employment in the aforementioned trades. References from former employers and/or customers are essential for the application process. In addition, the staff consisting of the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent of Maintenance shall test on-site to determine the skills in plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks. An applicant will be evaluated by the supervisors for such skills. Such evaluations shall be in writing in accordance with the  job assignment each one was given in the area of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry. All trades are mandatory. Each will be graded on the quality of the job, the ability with tools, length of time to complete, and the ability to follow directions.
